It's just a little idea, so don't all shout at me

Would it be a feasible idea to rent a server for -=DVF=-? So we get 24/7 access to a fast server with any game or mod (obviously we'd have CS most of the time), a place to have DVF only sessions whenever we want, somewhere to host clannies, and rcon powers to get rid of dem doity gangrenous players at will

I've had a little lookie and by far the best host is Jolt. You pay £50 per month, for a minimun of 3 months, for a 12-man server. As we know they're pretty fast, and we'd have the ability to upload maps, mods etc etc.

You pay more for larger servers (maybe 12 aint big enough...). You can also pay extra to get rid of "Jolt" in the name (£25 and unnecessary), or to add on PB (which we wouldn't do!!11111).

The costs are the aforementioned £50 a month for a min of 3 months (i.e. a £150 upfront cost), then a little button on the website saying "powered by Jolt" or whatever.

As I said it's just an idea, but would it be worth trying?

Maybe we could split the cost between as many of us as possible, those who pay getting love and respect, the odd sexual favour, and be the only ones to have rcon power.

Five of us paying a tenner a month for a 24/7 fast server that we can use just for DVF whenever we want isn't that stupid an idea is it?

I'd be willing to do this, if only to play some of the custom maps I'm always going on about on a decent server.

Anyway I vote in favour, and see how many other people agree.

(though I think DVF only games may lose something if we have a wanton server ready to accommodate us 24hours a day)

You can count me in DEFINATLY, I think this is the best idea EVER.
If enough people do become interested then we could get a bigger server.
You can have my thirty quid for three months worth, oh yes!!!!!

I reckon 16 player server would be enough, which is £8 extra a month.

IF we do get one (and I'm starting to like the idea ) would a 12 player limit be ok? It costs £165/3months for 14 players, or £174/3months for 16 players. Would 12 be big enough?

Would it worth adding £15/3months for "Live Stats"? They sound like a nice extra, but ultimately an unnecessary extra cost

We could have one (me!) or two (me and someone else! ) who paid a slightly larger sum, but got extra rights. These rights won't be enforced by the software, they'll be our not-so-unwritten rules

For example, lets split into four tiers -- non-paying member (tier D), paying member (tier C), people (say 2) people paying slightly more (tier B), and me the bloke who signs up to the programme, gives his credit card details etc (tier A, for apple). These are the sort of rights each tier will have:


TIER D -- NON-PAYING MEMBERS
- Can join the server at any time.
- Knows the server password to get into DVF games and clan matches.

TIER C -- PAYING MEMBER
- Can join the server at any time.
- Knows the server password to get into DVF games and clan matches.
- Can change the map.
- Can restart the game.
- Can set friendly fire on or off.
- Can change gravity.
- Can kick players.
- Can change the time limit etc.
- Can change bomb timer, buy time, freezetime etc.

TIER B -- HIGHER PAYING MEMBERS
- Can join the server at any time.
- Knows the server password to get into DVF games and clan matches.
- Can change the map.
- Can restart the game.
- Can set friendly fire on or off.
- Can change gravity.
- Can kick players.
- Can change the time limit etc.
- Can change bomb timer, buy time, freezetime etc.
- Can permanently ban members.
- Can change the TK penalty.
- Can change the hostage penalty.
- Can upload new maps.
- Can add and remove the server password.

TIER A -- ME!
- Can join the server at any time.
- Knows the server password to get into DVF games and clan matches.
- Can change the map.
- Can restart the game.
- Can set friendly fire on or off.
- Can change gravity.
- Can kick players.
- Can change the time limit etc.
- Can change bomb timer, buy time, freezetime etc.
- Can permanently ban members.
- Can change the TK penalty.
- Can change the hostage penalty.
- Can upload new maps.
- Can add and remove the server password.
- Deals with server-related correspondence.

Now, that's just an idea. But I think two different tiers based on what you pay might be a good idea.
