Dodgy Graphics in Internet Explorer ?

Probably something obvious that I cant think of right now, but..

Got my laptop running everything really nice - 99fps solid as a rock in CS;
desktop at 1920 by 1200 and looking real nice.

But for some reason web pages viewed in Internet Explorer look really blocky - the emoticons are blocky as hell.... any suggestions ?

The native resolution seems dependent on which screen you bought Mr W:

15.4-inch Dell UltraSharpTM WUXGA active-matrix display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200, 16 million colours.

15.4-inch Dell UltraSharpTM WSXGA active-matrix display with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, 16 million colours.

15.4-inch Dell UltraSharpTM WXGA active-matrix display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, 16 million colours.
