Its easy really.
1.Always run with a knife, but have the awp ready selected.
2.awp has slow reload, but you can actually fire again before that reload has finished(it takes practice and great timing, but it is easily possible).
3.AWP is just as accurate, even when you don't have your sights showing(ie when zoomed in). What you have to realise is where the centre of your screen is. This takes experience, but eventually it becomes instinctive.-when you aren't zoomed in you move faster, hence the Linford Christie effect.
4.NEVER, ever use the full zoom. It takes up too much of your sight and becomes very restrictive.
5.Practice.

But I thought that without the zoom, it was impossible to aim with the AWP, because the bullets were offset from the centre by a random amount.

I actually have great respect for decent snipers t@x; it's just that I'm crap at it myself. I've been praticising a bit with the Scout against PodBot, but not enough to use it in a proper game.

I'll add what you wrote to the guide if you don't mind, and if you've got any other sniping tips post them

I do acyually use the sights, but only ever on the first setting.
Also try not to move between zooms too much as it is noisy.-not loud, but it makes a very distinctive noise. This is the main way to combat a sniper. All you need to do is walk(so you make no noise-I use the DT decathlon technique-ie repeated hitting of direction button with always run enabled, as it makes it possible to go faster, but silently). Stay hidden and listen out for their zoom. This will enable you to locate where they are hiding without actually having to see them(sound in CS is very directional-I would rteccomend playing with headphones on). All you then need to do is creap up and jump out on them.-they panic, whilst you plough a whole clip into the whore!
