Just read this with regards to the recent update:

Apparently that was both a bug, and the new "trickle update" feature. That "feature" is where your steam downloads parts of mods etc that you don't really want, and stores them on your HD so that your PC can start dishing it out to other users when Steam goes P2P. Which of course saves Valve's bandwidth bill. There is of course no way to turn it off, and it's "trickle" is "limited" to 60kbps. I don't consider that a trickle, especially when it increases my CS ping to 14,400bps modem standards At least that was in last night update which has now been recalled, until the bug is fixed, when it'll probably be forced, I mean "re-introduced" to us.

for the last 2 days when i've had steam running its been showing the "steam - working" icon in system tray instead of the normal steam icon, so i checked on the moniter window what it was doing and i got this :



does this mean its d/ling updates for me or is it that trickle thing?

well my CS has finally finshed downloading from the other nights complete mess of an update, and i can get on any servers it just hangs at verifying game resources

i can start my own server and it works fine just cant get on any others

With the verifying resources stuff, clikc calculate cache status under game properties. It will say if it is at 100% cahced yet. When verifying hangs, it is downloading stuff.

right but apparently mine is 100% cached now, just finshed after two days!

No steam has just told me its lost connection to the content servers, "please try again later"
