I also currently download movies and LOST in HDTV format - and they look fantastic. The only problem I can see with the SKY offering is the increased monthly cost and the outlay for the box, only to be seen on 2 movie channels and Sky One.

Doesn't sound worth it.

You wont be able to get HDTV though your current SKY+ box so...

You will need a completely new box from sky to receive all 6 channels that will broadcast in HD (inc movies, which no one bothers with), so perhaps 3/4 channels in all

I read this about 6 months ago in the paper (things could have changed), pretty shit really, means you have to fork out loads more than you think..just for oooooOOO sharper picture...

I have a HD TV and HDTV over here and honestly, I don't get it. It's just the same, if not a little bit "shimmery" - they do HDTV sports here and it's no bloody different. I'm using cable though, maybe thats the issue - cable has always been a bit low quality for me (Im sure when I look close during a football match that I can see the pixelation).

HDTV , for me, is a gimmick - I've heard that it can change depending on where you sit, but my tv is always no more than 5-8 meters away.

As I think HDTV is not a gimmick blah blah but a massive improvemnt on the whole TV experience, as I am aware TV aint too important to some and important to others, footie and films and tbh alot of the progs I watch on sky atm I am very much into and if it can improve it somewhat then I am up for it.

The other great thing is the new box has 4 tuners, and anyone who watches alot of TV could do with 4 tuners!!!!!!!! OH YESSSSSSSS.

Looks like its going to be Spring 2006, which begins on the 20th of March.

Could be earlier these are only romours.

Also cost looks like £400 for box and extra £10 pm on top of sub.



Hopefully the cost of the box will be lower than this.

Well, I'm waiting for technology now anyway.
By the time that's the de-facto standard, we should have more coverage for HD and maybe we'll have it on free to air (I'm not paying for the technology AND the content when the SD content is free - I begrudge paying for what I get at the moment).
