Which Linux

ok i've decided im gonna try linux in my summer holls but i now find that there are many diffrent verson (Correct me if im wrong)

so im askin which is best to use for a person in my situation? :rolleyes:

I've posted this on the mother forums but no one has repplied

What is it you are planning to do with it?

In my experiance, if you dont actually have a use for it, you get board of it very quickly!

I will dig out a link to a good ISO site for you, assuming you have a CD writter, then you wont have to pay for the CD's from some where. Alternativly, I could d/l it for you (on my super fast CM link

)and burn it for you.

I've been happily running the last few revisions of . There are two versions available - Home and Pro. With 7.3 the Pro version had more applications on the CDs and a few more (quite impressive IMHO) manuals. I read a review of 8.0 and manuals have been combined in places hence fewer books in the box. The manuals hand-hold you through performing simple tasks the SuSE way whilst introducing many of the applications available for Linux.

FWIW providing you stick with one of the major distributions, they being SuSE - Redhat - Debian - Mandrake, you'll find plenty of online resources to help you with any problems that arise.

can sell you either the boxed retail set of any distribution or the downloaded .iso's where available.

I agree with Jason too. All the modern distros will install without much prompting and leave you at a pretty desktop which will be functionally similar to Windows. Yawn. So an objective for the PC is a good idea. Maybe make it your Firewall/NAT box so your PC isn't loaded when a friend is playing CS with you?

thats what i was thinkin of tin cause when my computer is networked i can't use my firewall and my computer has to be on

so thats one of the reasons i want to look into it
