I have heard from a personal friend of mine and also very trustworthy (though he did tell me that CS support would stop at 1.5, he didnt have a clue about valves plans with steam).

HL2 is coming very soon

apparantly the version has been criticised (sp?) but passed as final, due to steam updates being promised.

Also, it will get its "Game Rating" officially very shortly as it has just been passed to the ratings commision (ESRB) , once its on that site the announcement should come

Hoorah!!! the end of an era.
