We generally don't compete in any leagues.

You can explain this as either :

a: We're too good and don't want to show other people up.
b: We're not really that committed to this malarky.
c: Contests are, like, for fascists, right, and we really wouldn't like to be, like, working for the Man, right? Also, spend some time thinking about how you live your life, right, because what you do affects everyone on mother earth, right. Mmmmkay?

e: Some of us have kids and lives, OK?
f: The chances of us actually being able to organise ourselves into a contest are pretty slim, given the unique way the BBC^d^d DVF are funded. Other listings magazines are available.
g: Can't : Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday is Eastenders night.
