Well I've decided to stop playing CS as the experience is less enjoyable now. This is mainly due to the poor connection I seem to get. I have ADSL with Nildram and since January my pings/latency has been anything between 40 - 320, mainly averaging at 140.

Now this might not be so bad but I'm geting spikes and choke and basically the gameplay is worse than been a hpb! bullets and bodies jumping all over and generally un-playable

I've tried everything from my end, DrTCP is set to the optimum and I have a very stable comnnection generally with d/l speeds always at the upper 50's for my 512 connection.

For the past 6 months I've poped in for a gam,e but just got frustarteed so I leave, expecting that things will improve in a fewe weeks but it hasn't, oh well, it was fun.

If people could list any remedies, even the obvious ones then I may be saved.

Get a new ISP?

hmmm, well apart from the reactivation cost and loss of my familar email addy and webspace then it is an option but everything is excellent with Nildram except for this CS thing, even Wolfenstein ET plays well so it seeems to be just CS.

Dr TCP will be of little use for online gaming as it deals with TCP connections - games primarily use UDP. The only tweak likely to make any difference would be lowering the MTU to 1430 which gets around a problem in the BT network (lookup RAS and delays on packets requiring fragmentation if you want to know why.)

Otherwise get a traceroute tool such as Ping Plotter or Visual Route and set it to continually monitor the path to our server. Play a game or two and then have a look at the result the application provides and post it here. If it shows a problem beyond your PC also refer it to the support/tech guys at Nildram to look at.

Alternatively drop in and see if anything resembles the problem you have and whether there is a known solution to it.

Well im partially in the same boat. Zen apparently did a network upgrade on friday and it's managed to bugger up all online games.. the result? I get worse pings than people on 56k most of the time.

Getting the same problem as you, bullets/people popping out, dieing in the middle of nowhere or being shot where i last wasn't. Bullets not registering half the time, yes it is the proverbial pain in the ass.

It makes me really want cable but they don't do it in my area. Is that an option for you?

Other than that you can only nag your isp until they get it fixed or change isp. Unforunately there isn't really any other option to take as it's out of your hands as i don't think there's anything you can really tweak. If it was a line problem then it would be up to your ISP to get BT to do something i think so
