Oblivion
Anyone else as ludicrously excited about this game's imminent release as me? It looks like being absolutely brilliant. Pre-ordered the normal (ie. non-collectors edition) version on PC from Amazon today.
Can't wait

Ah, herro!
Nooooooo, never has a game series bored me sooooo much as morrowind. That is the type of game i love, for example i am currently playing 'Dungeon Lords' which is similar, but i just cant stand the morrowind series for some reason!

Well they have sorted the combat system out in Oblivion, I took back Morrowwind due to the crap hit register but the 360 version of Oblivion really shines.
REALLY shines.
It's amazing and so deep.

I have spoken to four other people who have this game and each of them have a differing experience in the first three hours. There is just so much in it that I know when I come to replay it there will be nothing old there.

Also brought battlefied 2 on saturday, its pretty sexy online, although I cant peel myself away from PGR3 at the moment.
Any info on the above matter would be great.Spoiler, My position & questions..Ive just got to the bit where the emporer gets killed by the assasin, and I get the king gem thing, does it get better from here. Thing is, im not entirley sure what Im doing, ive hacked some goblins and rats up, picked up most items i could find. Is this generally what the games about? Ive not played a game like this before you see...

Have you seen the king get killed yet? this starts you off on the main quest?
When you speak to random people you will be given side quests.
Join a guild and do there quests.
Get a mortar and pestle to make potions from the food and plants you pick up. You can use the potions on your self (for the pink ones) or put them on your weapons to cause more damage (the green ones) or just sell those for cash (don’t forget to haggle).

Ive got the mortar and pestle, and have aquired various potions and weapons, from chests and goblins.
Is it worth taking rat meat? I went a bit mad and ended up filling my inventory with shit! bones n stuff, ive had a bit of a clear out now though. Its a pain because most things can be taken, it makes you think if you will even need the stuff.
What sort of things do you hotkey? i have doen the torch and long sword, is it worth doing it to a potion?

The game stops when you go into your inventory so hot keying potions is not that critical. I have hot keyed
Sword
Bow
Torch
And then 5 spells.
You can drop anything by using (shift + left mouse) from inventory.
When you get to the gate leading to the outside world (and the start of the game) save at this point because you can edit your PC fully without making a new one.
I drop anything which can’t be used as a weapon / armour / spell scroll, made in to a potion or sold to a merchant.

I've got hold of this now and it looks great.
I've played it to the point where I have closed the first Oblivion Gate and now (legally) have a horse (that should tell you roughly how far I've got).
A few comments -
Like Morrowind, you can pick up everything, most of it is shite that just encumbers you but a lot of things (like the aforementioned rat meat and any other food/herbs) can be used to mix potions & poisons.
If the icon is RED when you go to open or take something then you are stealing it. You may have problems selling this (unless, like the other games you find a Thieves Guild - not seen one yet but I bet it's there).
If you are arrested then all your stolen stuff is taken from you.
The biggest problem with Morrowind was that because it was so vast and open-ended you were never really sure when you were doing quests that were vital to the story. Oblivion seems to sort this out and "holds your hand" a little more when it comes to quests. You can just follow the main plot line, or wander the world picking up side quests.
...and you can now travel instantly anywhere you've been (again an improvement over Morrowind). But, like Morrowind, if you just "zap" between towns you will miss half the game - half the fun is stumbling across caves/dungeons/ruins/encampments and seeing if you're good enough to go in and raid them for better gear and treasure.
It looks gorgeous but unfortunately the looks/performance issue when you get into the open countryside means that I've stopped playing it until I upgrade my rig (currently a 64bit AMD 3200 with a 128mb 6800). Movement and combat are both extremely difficult in the large outdoors areas unless I scale back everything; and even then it struggles.
But it does look like it could be a good game - hoping to pick it up again when I upgrade my graphics card.

Erm, j00 are kidding right?Worm wrote:Or just get an Xbox 360, and enjoy even better graphics
the pc version has far superior graphics to the 360, i have seen them side by side and the pc rules. chech out www.gamespot.com for some screenshot comparisons.
I run it in full spec and it runs fine, it is an awesome game and i have put in 60 odd hours so far, and i not even been doing the main quest.
