Tips for my HOL in Geneva.
Tips for my HOL in Geneva.
Staying in Geneva, Montreux to be exact, for 4 days next week, any tips etc advice?????

Was only ever in Montreux for a day. Went for a trip across the lake to Evian (the bottled water place) - it was pants, don't bother.
Swiss beer is pretty bad (avoid Cardinal at all costs) and spirits are very expensive so stock up at duty free. I used to think Switzerland was expensive, until I lived in London...
Have fun!

the only advice I have is to leave your weapons at home.
Switzerland is great, I loved it and didn't mind the beer either! It's the people that make it, the Swiss are so neutral and friendly, it's overpowering

Don't the Swiss ALL have firearms? Not recreational ones, but I thought they had to have them as part of the national defense.DE-G@vnor wrote:the only advice I have is to leave your weapons at home.

I've been once, but I was only a tot, so I don't remember squat about it except for my Swiss friend playing The Jungle Book at 45rpm. I'd recommend it - my memory of it is that it's perhaps the funniest thing in Switzerland.
I lived in Switzerland for a year and I believe that all Swiss males between 18 and 55 have to do a week or so of military service every year. They are issued with assualt rifles which they keep at home (not sure about ammo though) and they have to attend compulsary target practice every so often. It spooked me the first couple of times when I saw civilians catching the tram or pushing prams with assualt rifles slung over their shoulders - but you get used to it.
Also, in the event of a nuclear war, you'll be pretty safe. Every Swiss home/place of work has to have a nuclear bunker/shelter. I used to think this was only a requirement for large buildings until I visited a friends house and found out he had one in his basement (mainly stocked with his wine collection).
