RELEASE: de_witness

Post by Wintermute »

Final release now available...

de_witness

Image

OBJECTIVES:
The star witness is about to be moved from an anonymous safehouse down-town.
A few Counter-Terrorists are baby-sitting the witness
The rest have just arrived downstairs with transport.

COUNTER-TERRORISTS:
Protect the witness & stop the van that will take him to court from being destroyed.

TERRORISTS:
Kill the witness by detonating a bomb outside his room.
If this isn't possible then delay his court date by destroying the van downstairs.

I've posted a couple of sample thumbnail screenshots for you below.
You can see loads more hi-def images and get the map here.

Thanks again for all the support and feedback - I've tried to thank the beta testers in the map's .txt startup file.
The website has a full "thank you" list (apologies if I've forgotton anyone !).

Cheers,
Wintermute

It's a great map G@v, full of life with bits and bobs all round the map. Was playing on a map on the pub server that didn't have any shadows or anything else to make the place look real.

Good job Wint

the map looks excellent, well done Winter. Have played it on the Pub server a few times and everyone speaks highly of it.

I am pants on it though, have no idea where the choke points are and where the other team are going to appear from and get hopelessly lost everytime :? It is a tad too big and complicated for my tastes but may get the hang of it soon .

Thx guys, it seems to be going down quite well, which is nice when you've put a bit of effort into it :)

Although, strangely I almost enjoy making them more than playing them  .
I've already started designing a new map which I won't say anything about, other than it's completely different (in lots of ways) from de_witness.
:D

de_witness is (in terms of size) actually a very small map so you can get from A to B and back again with easily enough time to defuse once you know your way about.

There are 4 potential routes for the Ts; but only 3 of these are open each round - the underpass/back alley doors open & close each round like Havana for Source (had to introduce the "havana-effect" to limit things a bit as T's were overwhelming the CTs in early betas - now it seems fairly balanced).
...the vent-bathroom route is a bit of a suicide run if anyone's covering it (kinda like jumping in the vents in Assault)...

So it usually comes down to gunfights at:
- The ramp/garage entrance
- The vents to the bathroom
- Either the underpass or the Back Alley (which are next to each other).

It's obviously more complex than (say) de_dust; but most of the apparent complexity is simply there to make it look nice (and offer sneaky hiding/sniping spots :norty: ).

ah well back to work - not even 'sposed to be on the internet here (thank heaven for Firefox ;) )

Yeah, i have played this map a few times on the PUB server, everyone there loves it and rightly so!

I was however a CT on the map for the first time the other night, and my god is that a whole different ball game, if the T's work together you get slaughtered!

By the way winter, i like the upper floor that ylou have put near the garage entrance, alone i managed to wipe out anything that tried to come through there! - it offers some nice cover.

overall an excellent job, looking forward to your next one :D

Wow - looks excellent.

It's wierd - I'm on the Pub server most nights for a few hours, and I've never seen it!
