havent got a clue, maybe one with a switch to turn it off for XBL would be a good start though... I seem to recall there about 50-70 quid...

Did see a site advertising one that didnt require any soldering either, which is a nice bonus.

Anyone else ?

nope , only like jibs said get one with a switch, if MS check for one and find it you are autmatically banned from Live, with no getting back. you have to buy another box

Aye, not bothered about that, it mostly for when I go away, being able to play r1 disks, and store games on the HD.

www.xbox-scene.com

The ones without any soldering apparently suck .. no turn off and on switch and don't function properly on some of the more 'advanced' stuff.

Keep us informed on how it goes.

Well, picked up a chip from bowlers on saturday morning. Set me back £30 for an executer 2 lite. This has a bios on board, ready flashed so is ready to go without any further messing around. Dropped the pin header into the mobo and soldered 7 pins in. There is a real bastard of a wire to solder on to a tiny hole on the mobo. This was too hard so I found where the hole connects round the back of the board and fixed it on there. From starting to finishing took about 15 mins.
Just off to test it now. :D

Tadaa  Works a treat. I am in the process of setting up my evox, which is basically a replacement dashboard. This is so you can boot into mediaplayer and play all the films mp3's etc,, and turn it into a fully configured home entertainment system. Bonus!

Had trouble finding a copy of the stuff as its not allowed to be downloaded apparently, so if anyone else is gonna give it a try, let me know and I will zip you all the files you will need.
I also tried my firs game I downloaded, Retrun to Castle Wolfenstien. Looks good, need to give it a proper play though.

cool, what exactly can you do with a chipped XBOX? I might get mine chipped for the sake of it or buy another one to have chipped and not use it on LIVE. So what exactly does the chip do?

Nice one Jamie.

Just received my Chocollect Xbox yesterday, and I`ll be getting it modded by these guys http://www.ps2-modz.com/

They`re only an hours drive away from me, (cheaper than sending it through the post) so I can take the new girlfriend shopping, drop her off, then I can get the `box chipped. 8)

I`d appreciate that zip file, if it`s not too much trouble. :)
Best CS round.....EVER!!!

You live near Carlisle? Is that where they are based?

Wow I live in Carlisle too, what are the chances of seeing someone who also lives in the same tiny backwater "great border city"......

Jamie, I think i'll probably be modding my xbox soon, gives me something to do now that i'm out of work.

Is it relatively easy to fit, I'll probably have to get a soldering iron though.

So where did you get yor mod chip from then Jamie ??

I quite fancy renovating the Xbox into a media centre as then I could move the server out of the front room and into a cupboard somewhere (reduce the noise etc :) )

I too (along with everyone else here by the looks of it) am thinking of upgrading :norty: the old xbox bios and dashboard.

Does anyone know any reliable online places to buy the required stuff?
