This has been in development for years - remember reading about it in Edge magazine a while back.
It looks amazing, but then it started life as a tech demo of natural environments, so I guess you expect that - not sure whether that will translate into a decent game though.

Cheers for the link, will give it a bash sometime

yes but counter-strike graphics are bearable...

if you've ever played doom you'd know that too much lack of graphics makes it unbearable

I played it for a while. While the graphics maybe great the gameplay is just above average. The enemy A.I. is fine, the whole eyes-and0ears style of play is fine and the game mechanics I personaly like. What does this all add up to? Brilliant graphics wasted on a fairly run-of-the-mill FPS.

If you like this game try Chrome, it's very similar in both playing style and graphics. Out of 100 I would give this game an 83. :)

Shut up, fool  Doom is one of few perfect computer games, and just because it doesn't have uber-dynamic-lighty-flashey-volumetric-pom-poms doesn't make it unbrearable  I might be suffering from nostalgia whenever i play it these days, but even allowing for that it's a brilliant game

Nobody speaks negatively of classic games .... and liiiives :watch: Clunk clunk clunk, duh duh duh, Episode 2.

yeah i agree, it was a great game in it's time, but playing it nowadays is pretty harsh.

you couldn't even aim up the y axis in the origional!

i see my friend play it in IT class all the time, in maps he's made which are pretty good but i can't watch him play it for more than 2 mintues because everything that isn't a wall, is a sprite....

and sprites....they mess with your mind, doing that turning shit

maybe i'm wrong, but doom used to be a good game, but now it's dead and should be buried.

people with 2mb graphics cards deserve all they get >:(

sacrilege

what about beachhead, wolfenstien, monkey island, street fighter, Track and field etc etc.

I still love and DO play these games , they are a part of history and shouldnt be dumped on the quality of graphics, the same way that you cant dump the beatles or Rolling Stones for the quality of their instruments

It looks like an n64 or gamecube game. What does it play like then?

It's a good thing I didn't download this demo, and got it off a disk instead.
When I get into the game itself, all I see is blue. Well I can see the compass and the heath status bars at the bottom, but everything else is blue. It's a very nice coloured blue, but the ingame graphics would be better. :(

its alright, a bit sluggish not as fluent as CS but it looks feckin amazing. all the water effects, landscape, animations etc are well good.

and they even managed to make the p90 sound like a gun instead of a rattle. :chow:

Sounds like a problem with the gfx drivers,or maybe you need to switch off the the vsync.
I have seen a similar problem with some games - from memory, if you're getting a "hall-of-mirrors" effect then turning off the "wait for vsync" option in your advanced display settings may fix it.

I've got and installed the latest drivers (Nvidia 53.03), but the game did work when I changed to opengl instead of dx9. In opengl the graphics looks s*** and plays slow aswell
Usefully there is no faq's with this problem in it, and the ubi forums are broke (or they where this morning) :(
So somthing looks broke with my dx9 settings.
At least cs still runs :)

Great game, ran abit sluggish on my 256MB fx 5600 though :?
Is that down to the coding as its a demo, or do you reckon the game will be as jittery :?

Averall though love the graphics and the EAX 5.1 surround is excellent, I like idea of just swimming around all over the place

w00t

(may have to buy ANOTHER graphics card now) :?
