Fahrenheit 9/11

Post by PeaceBreaker »

I've just been to see this at the cinema, and thought it was a really good film, even though a little hard to take in all the information when there is a banner that you have to read on the screen and he is telling you something completely different at the same time. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it's an excellent film documentary. What did you guys think?

Well I have a copy on *cough* vcd. Most of the information is in his last book, Dude, Where's My Country?. It's an interesting read and quite funny too. Thing is to most non-Americans Bush always seemed like a spoiled rich kid with brain cell deficiency. So I saw nothing surprising but I'm a bit of a fan of Micheal Moore.

I liked the bit where he tried to get senators to sign their sons/daughters up for the u.s army, it was a shame that they had to edit alot of it out, as the film was already quite long and jam packed.

i also have it on vcd, and i have to say as much as it is entertaining.. i think it is also unquestionably biased against bush (no bad thing) but i dont know if everyone realises it is more entertainment than documentary, i have had this argument with my mates

I don't think I've ever seen an unbiased documentary. After all, if someone is interested enough in a subject to commit the time and money to making a film about it, they surely must have preconceptions before they start.

Although I agree that mr moore gives his views in a very arrogant manner, if you look into his claims they are all based on fact. If they were not he would be locked up for a libel a long time ago.

Im sorry mate, but indeed its true. The sad thing is though that all presidents / prime ministers of capitalist countries appease corporations just the same. Even the democrats do, most of Clintons "good" was done 4 months before the end of his term.

I havent seen all of Farenhiet 9/11 (as a lot of it is repeated from his literature) but I have read 2 of his books, which are "watered down politics for the faint hearted" but no where near as good as similar stuff from more politically active people (pm me for a list) :) It sickens me a little that he puts such serious issues into "entertainment" because we shouldnt be entertained by the fact that the world is becoming ruled by the corps and their puppets. But how else do u get it to the masses, I have tried giving public speeches on the control of countries by corporations and was not allowed by my uni as it is "Subversive"

Didnt they warn us about this at school?

i'm not saying that he's wrong, but he does deamonise bush to an extent that i think is probably unfair.

just because everyone else is biased doesnt make it ok to be so.

How many Americans do you think will pick up a copy of John Pilger? I don't see why it should sicken you. Surely you should applaud him on finding a way to bring this to "the masses" as you say.

You may think that, but I would say it's better to nail your flag to the wall and then state your case than present a 'balanced view when that's actually just a facade for the bias.

Agreed, maybe the second way is more subtle and possibly more persuasive.
