NEW MAP!!!!! fy_port

Post by dark_wulf »

Currently named beta_port as, well, its the beta version. But that will be the final name.

Anyway, its a basic fy_map and its the first one I have managed to sorta get this far on. So give it a playtest and tell me what you think.

Yep, the ladders need to be set to RenderMode "Solid" (iirc).

A couple of other observations:

The ladders are also MUCH thicker than you normally see. This may be deliberate, but most ladders are usually about 2 blocks deep.
Similarly, the boards between the cargo crates (across the top) feel a bit to thick when you're running about across the top of them.
I think one of your brushes is a bit small - where you enter the cargo bit on the side it doesn't quite meet the conveyer belt.
Nice job on the main room itself - it's good to see a room that isn't just a square block :)
How about making the conveyer belt work so you're pushed along it - maybe making that bit narrower so you can't jump on/off it when you're going round.

Anyway, just some observations/suggestions.

Just been on this map, and would like to point out that i couldn't get back down the T's ladders just got bounced back, i didnt try the ct ladders (worth checking out), Those blocks...? (are they went to be that big, cos sumtimes u walk sidewards on the ones at close rang to each other before you get on them. One last thing, do you think its abit unfair on T's that there ladder is on the side (hense in firing range of CT's) when theres is nicly concealed?

Apart from that a nice fun map

But at the same time, the CT's have to brave the T's shooting them to get in the conveyor when the T's are concealed. Thats on purpose but thats what I want to check really.

The conveyor is a pain in the arse. No chance :D

I didn't know about the ladders though. I'll try and fix them after seeing how it plays and make a beta_port_v2.

Let me know when you have a playable map, Ill stick it on the second server for a few hours for a good bit of play time. Ill find the bugs, and the sneaky things, no messing.

the ladders need to be func_wall;rendermode:texture-somelight;FX amount:255 and then add a brush the same size and 1 block bigger outward from it and make it a func_ladder. To make the conveyor belt move you you need to use a func_push, this will move the person along but it is difficult to get it to move them in a way that looks like a steady push on corners, you direct the push using the angle wheel at the top of the properties window. You'd need to make the textures a scrolling texture for the conveyor to look like it is moving and that can be found on one of the tutorials pages. HTH

func_push pushes you along

func_conveyor makes the texture on the object itself scroll, and moves you along.
