World of Warcraft

Word on the streets is that there are a few fans of the above in DVF. Seems expensive to me (USD15/month?) but a friend's kid's are nagging him to get it so I wondered if anyone thinks it's worth it?

So far it is costing me 8 pounds a month (or so) and it is the most fun I have had online since I first found Ultima Online (before EA bought it out and turned it shit)

So this explains your resent absence from the server bob. I wondered why it was a bit quite on there :)

Well after all these positive comments I thought I'd take the plunge myself. Just bought it off Amazon. Looking forward to giving it a go!

My Amazon order delivery estimation date is 26th April!!! Is that the UK release date? Or should I cancel from them and get it somewhere else?

WoW is out now, most shops doing it for £29.99 and online shops like Gameplay are cheap and pretty fast with delivery. Cancel the amazon order if I were you!

Thanks for the replies! One question - can you set up multiple profiles so that two or three people can use the same install on the same PC but have different characters in the game? If for example you had a couple of kids and *cough* dad all wanting to play?

You have multiple characters on each server.

Just select a different character.

Yeah - get EQ2 and join all the other people spending 2 hours mining in order to gain a 0.01% increase in your mining skill ...

You forget I'm a MMORPG newbie, but I guess that's bad isn't it?

I trialled EQ2 a while back - it struck me as very 'in-depth' (i.e. loads of stats etc); but just not a great deal of fun.

In a similar vein to Bob's comment, the overwhelming majority of people seemed to spend hour after hour hitting things with sticks or learning other skills in a very repetitive manner, just to bump up their stats.

I eventually wandered off on my own ...and died.

I love RPG games and was expecting to enjoy it. It's probably awesome if you spend more time playing it than not, but tbh, I can't say I enjoyed it a great deal.

Oh I remember the days, walking into Bobs office to find on his screen showing Everquest online, with his character smacking a dead body with a stick, constantly, all day, every day. What fun.

Is this honestly how you get ahead in EQ? Sounds really tedious!

It was Ultima Online - and I used to run the game on a machine and put a stapler on the F8 key ... Last Object/Last Target.

It would spend 6 hours a day hitting something in order to gain a 5% increase in my fighting skills.

Like I said I have done this before and am now very very bored with it. However WoW rocks and there is NONE of this. Very well designed, it is like an RPG online with a few thousand other people playing with you.
