War of the Worlds! (review, possible spoilers)

Post by Worm »

Well, went to watch it lastnight, hmmm.

Effects:
Acting:
Sound:
Plot:

Fantastic effects and sound, it keeps you very gripped in the middle, but I hate to say it ends VERY quickly, its not as good as ID4. Cruise does a great job, his daughter is a little annoying at times.
Go and watch it, its good for the cinema experience......

BUT:

King Kong looks ACE!!!!!!
Dukes of Hazzard looks pretty good too, along with F4.

I thought the plot was more like  especially the sub plot with the family troubles. I mean what the hell was that all about? Ever heard of developing characters? Both kids should have been first in line to be mutilated by the aliens they were so annoying.

Personally I thought Dakota Fanning (the daughter) stole the show from Tom in every scene they were in and there wasn't enough special effects for me, the scene where the army is shooting at something (you don't see what till the end of that scene) is ridiculous, you see nothing happen but the next thing all the vehicles are rolling down the hill on fire.

Poor and as already mentioned not a patch on ID4

I saw it last week (day of release  ) and I really enjoyed it. Not exactly the best plot or even acting, but really people you should learn to leave reality at home when going to see a movie like this.

Dekota Fanning is a very good actress and, obviously, well media trained as well (have you ever seen her being interviewed, she has a very mature attitude.)

I think the reason for some of those effects being missing is that they had to rush it out. The movie was made in 4/5 months.
Also..

Q. How many F/X shots will the film have?

A. Okay, I guess this is unnecessary trivia, but it's a bit interesting. According to Variety.com, WOTW is set to have around 500 F/X shots in the film. Spielbergfilms.com claims that this would be the most FX shots ever used in any Spielberg film!

Was good for me until the very last scene. Never heard a cinema groan like that before.

True Jamie the last scene was very flawed...

SPOILER ALERT!
WTF did the aliens leave that part of Boston alone?..Compare it with the slaughter and mayhem that was supposed to be going on all around the world

I agree that the daughter stole every scene from Tom Cruise.

Surprisingly little dialogue, plenty of action with fantastic effects. Very quick and what seemed a rushed ending to me but not disappointing.

Very enjoyable film that gets straight into the story with little or no pussy-footing around.

Out of 5:

Hmmm perhaps it was the screaming that was doing my head in with her (especially in the car).
Suppose I was expecting more from a Speilberg/cruise movie, hence the little dissapointment.

hahaha, thats what i thought, but if it wasnt for them pesky kids running away all the time it would have been quite boring....

i liked the few jokes at the beginning too - especially the peanut butter one, the cinema was roaring.

The lad was just a emo kid and I daughter was just a spoilt brat.

For some reason "Emo Kid Joins The Army" just came to mind.

Anyway, I thought it could of been better but overall wasn't a bad film.
