There are widely differing views on this game.

For instance.

And more varied views here.

Don't really know what to make of that - Maybe I should just buy it and see for myself... Or possibly not.
I don't buy a lot of games and if I do it has to be absolutely fantastic to hold my enthusiasm long enough for me to finish it. The last game that was all of the above was HL2. After I finished HL2 I bought Riddick ('cos it was cheap) and had a free copy of Doom 3 with a new video card, but neither of those games had the ability to hold my attention long enough for me not to get utterly bored long before their conclusion.

You've got to laugh at the people giving it 10/10 and the people giving it 1/10 too, it's neither of those.
IMHO it's ok but not brilliant, the scare factor is pretty good but it seems pretty random, I mean you'll be walking down a long corridor (yet again) and you'll catch a glimpse of "something" usually a face wrecked beyond recognition or "the girl" but I never can see the point of that bit.
It also needs a beast of a machine to run anywhere near smooth.
I'm not knocking it, it's just not HL2 if you know what I mean?
I found Quake 4 more impressive but that uses the Doom3 engine so it might put a lot of people off right there.
I'm NOT tight, I'm careful!

Hmm,

Doom 3 for me was amazing, alot more scary than FEAR.

I found the graphics for an "up to date game" were crap, no where near that of HL2. The scary bits are ok for the first 5 mins, but get boring, and having to fight "possesd maries" is a little non scary, I WANT MONSTERS!!!!!!

Sorry, but i STRONGLY dissagree with that.

In my opinion this definately deserves a 10 out of 10, the graphics are jaw-dropping, and as for the fear factor - all i can say is wow - i was on the edge of my seat most of the time and there has not been a game to do that to me since Clive barker's undying... there was even one point where i screamed out! - i have not tried the multiplayer aspect yet, but i will soon.

Well, for me it seems well outdated, I played it for approx 3 hours, within which time I found, no challenge, loads of bugs, no good interaction to get you "into" the game, and I didnt jump or get "scared" once (dont get me wrong, I have to play D3 with the lights on).

It obviously has a different effect on different people, id say if your thinking of buying it, dont, download it, or borrow it first. Ill probably download it, as I believe its definatley not worth 30+ quid.

I also cannot believe you liked the graphics  , they are well pap, its VERY dark, so you cannot see much in any case, the animation is pants, cut scenes were nice, it gives no atmosphere. Perhaps I was having a "bad game day" I dont know, It jsut didnt float my boat, comparing it to Farcry, D3, HL2 etc. Wrong engine for that time of game.

FYI = I returned it for Pro Evo 5 on the xbox (which is CLASS)

I had to come and talk more about this... I really cannot understand how you thought the graphics, atmosphere and gameplay was pap?

I have been playing this a lot and the graphics truly are the best I have ever seen, easily better than doom and the likes, the shadow creation, the characters and the movement is just all amazing! - i have shown friends who are not into computers and they are even amazed at the graphics.

Darkness, you said the game is mostly too dark but for me it is only down the odd tunnel where you have to whip your torch out and seeing as you only had it for a few hours you cant have gotten much further than the start which takes place outside, and in a well lit factory.

Atmosphere... when the game cuts and suddenly goes to slow-mo, or when you are going down a corridor and a little girl sprints past you giggling, if that doesnt make you jump out of your skin, it at least adds enough tension to the game that creates an atmosphere of fear because you never know what to expect round the corner! - its like a workout session for me, my heart must be doing 200 bpm!, Also a major thing that adds to the atmosphere is the objects around you, like walking past a shelf and knocking a box off.. that is enough to make you spin around pretty damn fast!

Gameplay... the AI is amazing, they talk to each other, you can sneak up and twat em one silently, the slow-mo effects add alot to the game and the bullet trails look great too.

Bugs? - what bugs, the only bug i have found so far is from downloading the bloody patch, when i installed that, the game no longer ran and i had to re-install it from scratch.

Has anyone else got this game? - what do you think
