The worst film of 2005.

Post by jamie »

Just been looking back at the films from the last 12 months, so good, some bad. 1 of them fills me with rage thinking about how bad it turned out. HHGTTG. Looked forwards to it for absolutely ages, then ended up feeling pretty bad after watching it. Think Bob and the matrix. :/
So what else did you find rubbish from last years films?

Hmm, funnily enough this is one film I missed and really wanted to see having heard very good things about it.

FWIW, I thought the HHGTTG was disappointing too, as was "The Forty Year Old Virgin".
May remember some more when I've woken up a bit.

And I agree. This was the most disappointing movie of the year....So much promise, a real missed opportunity.

Don't get me started on The Matrix ...

But HHGTTG was absolute bollcks, one huge hairy testicle from beginning to end.

They took a fantastic novel and removed all the good jokes and put their own in ... which weren't funny and actually incorporated slap-stick!!!!

Yeah wasn't a very consistent year. Films I've seen in the last year which were crap:

Hitch-Hikers Guide
Broken Flowers
Star Wars 3
Sin City
War of the Worlds
Hitch
The Interpreter
Madagascar
Chronicles of Narnia
The Amityville Horror

And the ones which I enjoyed:

Batman Begins
King Kong
Harry Potter & Goblet of Fire
Serenity
Kingdom of Heaven
40 Year Old Virgin (well, I liked it!)
The Jacket
Wallace & Gromit and the Were-Rabbit
Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Descent
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

That's not from memory, by the way - I used this list from IMDB.
Ah, herro!

War of the Worlds, was very enjoyable, right the way up to the last minute. Then it turned into the secondd biggest piece of shit of the year.

I thought WoW was poop, only good thing about it was the WARRRRRRRRGHGWARGHHHHHHHHH noise he ships made.

Have kept meaning to buy HHGTTG in the sales, seeing this thread I probably won't.

Just buy the book instead. On a different note, I have been looking for the fan edit of star wars TPM, the one with all the jar jar binks crap cut out. Anyone got a copy of this at all?

I don't think I've actually seen a film I've not enjoyed this year.
Didn't bother with Hitchhikers based on Bob_The_Critic's advice.

I quite enjoyed Hitch - it did exactly what it says on the tin.

Oh yeah, the Grudge. Forgot to mention that one.

Liked it, and the Japanese one (to a lesser extent).

the grudge is the only move i've ever been truly frightened off...had to sleep with the TV for like 4 days. What didn't help was my mates ringing me up at 3am and making the weird noise.

i agree that hitch hikers ghuide was poo..as was star wars 3 and alexander but i've enjoyed some of the others mentioned. i really liked narnia for example..as it was fairly close to the cartoon movie i watched as a kid. i saw my one of my favourite animated movies brought to life.

I think the reason it was like the cartoon movie was because that movie was based on a book by C.S Lewis and oh...look...so was the recent film ...what a coincidence.

[sarcasm mode=off]

Having said that I can't say a word against the movie as I haven't seen it. My 9 year old, however, report's that it is the greatest movie of all time. And she never lies...ever!

OMG REALLY? nah you must be telling a fib. I mean who is C.S Lewis anyway?!?

[sarcasm mode=off]

i haven't myself read the book in a long time and i can't really remember much of it. however i've been told recently that both movies are only 'based' on the book. The director could have stayed close to the story but made the world, various scenes and lots of other things look completely different.

however its almost an exact conversion...the altar scene...edmond meeting the queen...the queens castle....etc etc are all very similar in both movies.

:)

I felt TLTWATW was a watch once film. I can imagine the second time being a bore-fest.

DEATH TO YOU FOR THAT COMMENT

Arrrrggggghhhh

(not a fanboy of these american RIP OFF (wheres the credit??) remakes, lack the atmosphere of the "different culture" if you ask me).

I enjoyed War Of The Worlds though, wouldn't say it was excellent (in fact, im hard pushed to pick one that was this year) - so maybe I'm the one thats off my tree.
