Bit the bullet yesterday and got me a TH42PX60 Panny + Cabinet Stand + DVD recorder + Component leads + 5 year warranty ....

Well impressed with the picture quality and build design of the set, watched Troy this morning and I must say it was a amazing experience...

A big thanks to the Avforums for the helpful posts, they no their shit!!!

Anyway, off to play some more 360 in hidef'ness'world.

After the expensive holiday that she booked this year (I have better thing to do with my time than spend it lazing on a beach for 2 weeks TBH) we have decided to get ourselves a nice big plasma TV to whack on the wall. So in about mid August I will be asking those that know here what the best deal at the time is...

I thought about putting mine on the wall, but found that having to look up at the plasma wasnt that comfortable. Although the clean look is very nice.. I opted for the directly in front when sitting down style.

I must say im yet to still download some HIDEF stuff on the xbox.... The games look amazing through it though.

How long did you guys run you plasma's in for, the AVforums say 200 hours on less than 50% contrast/brightness/colour levels.
Im thinking of just leaving the set on for a week (zoomed in so no channel logos are present)

Thats why I put mine as low as possible on the wall. The bottom of the Plasma is at eye level when sitting on my sofa. The position is is actually more relaxing then when the TV is as low as it would be on a stand.

All plasmas require some kind of run in, to stop retention etc etc.

Youth!! don't be so cheeky you young scallywag.

Certainly the first couple of generations needed running in and I supposed it wouldn't do any harm to run in a recent generation plasma. I did run my PWD6 in for the recommended 200 hours but not all one marathon waste of electricity. 50% contrast is fine on the PWD6 anyway.

Lets think about it this way...how many Plasma buyers read the AV Forum? Where else can you get this advice? I don't remember any shops advising me to use only have the contrast of my new plasma for 200 hours. Plasma are now a firm consumer product and have to be stable enough for even my 78 year old neighbour to use. He didn't run his in at all in fact he likes everything turned up (his eyes are not so good).

So Woz can chill, safe in the knowledge that his PWD6 will last easily until he upgrades to a HD plasma.

Hey - I think mine's a PWD7...
But in any case, phew, thanks ReHab, that's taken a weight off my mind.
Well, not really, being as I've not changed a single setting on it since I got it out of the box. I really ought to get around to setting it up correctly.
I'll give it another couple of years to bed in I guess.

It will be fine mate, Im running all my settings below 50%, specificly the contrast.

Its totally fine with these settings anyhow, Im just going by what Ive read, cant do any harm, I also checked with the guy in RS, he said basically alot of the "cheaper manufacturers" supply the TVs with the settings jigh from standard (mailny due to the fact that they need to be shown in bright showrooms etc).
These settings are totally overboard in your living room, im just advising as you kindly did to me when I was purchasing my speakers.

I currently leave mine on all the time when im in, on zoom 3 (removing channel logos).
