Having been away in the great white north for a while, Im WELL out of touch - everythings changed!
I dont really want to upgrade, but look forward to playing that Source game with the russian tanks (bugger my memories bad).
I got a AMD64 3400+ with it, and dont really want to have to pay for an upgrade to PCI-Express - being skint.
Will it do? or is there another 100 quidish card out there?

I thought the X800 was a weaker card than 6800 GT?

As you can see from this
chart The x800 pro just beats a 6800 ultra on H/L 2 lost cost.
The x1600 is around the power of both of them but it may work better at the newer games and the 512MB mem will work out better if you have a large monitor (24"+) or have 2 going 2 on the go at the same time.
The best AGP card you can get is the
7800 GSbut has a price tag to mach at £187.

Well, just to answer my own post for anyone with a similar AGP dillemma.
6800 GT is unfortunately, still the best option for most games , especially FEAR and BF2 - the 7800GS is really quite poor especially on most games, including HL2.
I was hoping to be able to buy something new , instead of the same card as last year

AGP is well and truely "old hat" already - damn this technical world.
The X800 XL seems good, but I had issues with FEAR and HL2 Episode 1 where the framerate drops to 2 or something. X800 Pro, on my rig, really didnt compete AT ALL with any of the others.
God bless Dunc, who owns a nearby store and let me take them all home!

Really.
Well that's useful to know as I was thinking of dropping nearly £200 to get one, to upgrade from my struggling fx5800u.
Guess back to ebay for a second hand 6800 is my best bet.

aye - well.. Just so I dont feel guilty if its just my setup

Get a second opinion.
My setup is a AMD64 3400+ with a gig of memory in 1 stick. But on that rig, the 6800 GT was defo the boy. Still... I cant afford one yet, so Im just waiting

i got an X700Pro hybrid with the 512GDDR memory, that seemed to play all my games at around 60fps in the hardest areas and higher in the lighter areas. I dunno if you can still get them as the X800 has taken over it's place but the X700 was based on the X800 anyway. I'd recomend the X700Pro if you can find one to try out on your rig

I have an X700pro I won in a Custom PC competition last year. It's a PCIe so I've nver used it as I don't have a PCIe MB. I also have the AGP version of the X800 thats been soft modded at the moment it runs everything OK but struggles with FEAR and QUAKE4.

I have a Gainward 6800GT (Golden Sample) Running at Ultra speeds. It kicks ass. The only thing holding it back is my CPU.. It's a P42.8 that I have OCed to run at 3.36 but that still isn't enough to allow the GC to work uninhibited
