Ack! my telly's bOrKEd!
I've had my Sony KV-32 FD1E for about 7 years now and it been a great TV. Yesterday it started to switch itself off for no apparent reason.
Today it's doing it after only ten mins.....Time for a new telly I think. I've been considering a Plasma for a while now so it looks like I'm being pushed into getting one now. So anyone have any experience with plasmas?
I'm looking at the Panny PW6 as it seems popular on the AVforums but I guess I really should demo a few models.
I really miss the Sony KV-32 FD1E though....

I have the PW5 and can say that I am more than happy with the image. Using a JS tech RGBtoVGA2 coverter for cable and other sources. Shortly, replacing my ageing Marantz DV4100 OSE for one of the new Pioneer DV575s (present from the missus)
Its worth finding somewhere to demo, although depending on where you are it can be difficult. I started looking last year and found the general set ups to be dire. Out of all of them at the time the Panasonics caught my eye as they generally seemed to have the better PQ even when sharing crap RF feeds with other panels - it was a lot more forgiving. Eventually I was swayed by the reviews on the Hitachi 42PD3000 which had just been released and was getting great write ups, and stupidly bought without viewing. Anyway, I had that a week before I sent it back - I just couldn't get away with it for quite a few reasons.
I would recommend either Panasonic or Pioneer but a lot of people like the new Hitachis.

I have the same problem with my son's TV - I find if he leaves it in standby it occurs however if he turns it off at the socket then the issue doesn't occur at all for the next 'viewing time'.-ReHaB- wrote:I've had my Sony KV-32 FD1E for about 7 years now and it been a great TV. I've got an article (about 20 pages) of What HIFI on TV's, If you want I can scan the pages and post / mail them.
Well if price is not an issue, check out HIFI NEWS, they have got some great stereo's for around € 75,000...barracuda wrote:I have got a rear projector 42" and its mint, but i am desperate for a surround system, that i can plug in my TV/Sky+ box and thats iot, any suggestions?
(price not an issue)
I'm going to buy the Arcam AVR 300, which has been tested real good...
but they dont come in 42" as yetWorm wrote:Mate, look around, plamas are good, but LCD are better, they are dropping in price too
Saw your post over at avforums rehab, as you say the panny PW6 seems to get most peoples vote, Funny enough i had a quick look round over the last week at Plasma's. I saw the Hitachi 42PD5200 in a richer sounds (yeah i know probably wasnt setup properly) but the picture did look stunning, and for a change, unlike most AV shops they didnt have shrek playing! Let us know what you demo and end up with.

I've been looking at the Pioneer PDP434HDE as well. It cost quite a bit more than the other but it's a proper HD display ie 1024 X 768 rather then the 825 X 480 of most of the others. The Hitachi you mentioned does have a HD panel but it uses ALiS technology (Alternate Lighting of Surfaces). They work in a way that's similar to interlaced-scan crt TVs. Plasma panels have a strip of electrodes for each horizontal line of plasma cells, while ALiS panels share an electrode strip between two lines of cells. These lines switch on and off rapidly 60 times per second, and at any given instant only half the panel's pixels are turned on. Make of that what you will but most on the AVForums agree that they are not so good.

That's the model I'll be purchasing within a few weeks.....already bought the Pio 868 with HDMI to match it.
I'm looking at buying it from JL (for the 5 year warranty) and then getting them to price match.
Best CS round.....EVER!!!

I've tested the older Pioneer DVD player with HDMI. The colours are so much better, everything just is right.
I'm going to buy the Arcam dv79 (in backorder), which also has HDMI, now I'm watching movies on my old Denon, I wish the Arcam was here.....
Any way congrats on your decision to purchase the Pioneer plasma, it's really a great TV with a great design.

Off to Cardiff on Monday to Demo some Plasmas..
Any suggestions as to where I can demo? I know Richer sounds (not good for demos) and Seven Oaks but is there anywhere else? (Seven oaks in Swansea doesn't have any plasmas ATM! and Audio Excellence don't have a good demo room)
