<smug mode engaged>

300 quid from PCW components, had to get trading standards in though, during the sale :/

But non the less its a GREAT overclocker, im not sure if they are all this good, but 425mhz core 1.2 GHZ ddr!!!! is a beauty

I recommend it, got a built in thermometer (sp?) too :)

What was the dealwith that, misprice, or an offer when they miraculously have none in stock.

a string of things. Ive been stung rather badly by them and not sure I would shop again.

Anyhoo, 11567 3d marks , 2003 not bad. The guys on the forums there have to be lying though - cos I think the overclock is rather large and I cant match the BFG GT OC which runs slower. EDIT --> they run it on all settings PERFORMANCE, that explains it.

Woot!!! 127fps on CS Source stress test :)

XFX or something, got it running slightly faster than an ultra.

had a play with it tonight and here are my findings.

Great (perhaps unbeatable, cos the DDR wont clock over 1.2 and its the same as the ultra) on games if you dont go overboard with AA.

Yes, I can confirm, it is not very good with AA at all. 2x seems to have little hit and even the Q4x isnt bad. BUT go 4x AA or higher and performance drops through the floor (far cry does 75 fps steady at 1280+ - I use vsync - on full detail with 4x anis, but turn AA on and Bump, 36 at best).

Seems that it performs better at higher resolutions, I actually got better fps on farcry by turning up the resolution - problem is that my monitor cannot do more than 60hz over 1280 :( and I love my vsync, hate tearing.

Doom 3 is smoother, but the image quality was DEFINATELY better with my 9700 pro :/ maybe drivers will sort this , as I dont have a NVIDIA set that specifically deals with the GT.

Is it worth 300 quid though? Id say probably not.. It is a MASSIVE jump, dont get me wrong, in fact the last time I remember a jump as big as this was Voodoo 2 !!! seriously, it is that big.

But no graphics card is ever worth 300 quid , but as you know I have been lucky on ebay, so its paper money really :) (thats how I've justified it anyway)

Once its 200 and less, its well worth a shot - I cant see the next generation being much better than this tbh. It beats the pants off a X800 !!! (My mate has brought one round tonight and hes gutted to say the least).

So, in your opinion then G@v, is it worth me getting this

I had a 9800pro IceQ from Ebuyer but I sent it back because it kept crashing(even in CS 1.6!) will the XFX GeForce 6800 128MB DDR be a better option?

I love Komplett. Good prices and whoever writes the English version of their website is completely insane

For example:
New at Komplett - the Partial Delivery option!

If you need that bit more extra urgency or convenience, you can use our new Partial Delivery function at checkout, where we will deliver the items that are in stock now and the rest as they become available. Which means you can order a whole plethora of exotic PC-based goods, receive an excting package straight away, and then sit back and relax as the remaining parts come gradually rolling in as we get them. All the excitement of a birthday over and over again! It's like subscribing to one of those classy collector's offers: pay only £1.99 now, and you'll receive a latex replica of the eyeball of one of your favorite Renaissance Monarchs every month for the rest of your life (price may increase exponentially every month - failure to pay may result in making tiny puppies cry).
Only hopefully you won't feel shame and regret for the rest of your days using our Partial Delivery option.

That's the Komplett Difference - continually striving not to make you feel shame and regret!
This is definitely worth reading.

Ah well, I looked here for my GT which was listed 80 pound cheaper, but VAT was NOT included. Not sure if they still do this, but be careful

Sorry Pagan, I cant really say. THere are big architecture (al?) differences between the standard and the GT/Ultra's (standard has slower RAM chips (DDR not DDR3) and less pipelines) , a bit like comparing a 9600 radeon to a 9500 Pro (the latter being a lot better).

From what I read they are a good card, but the price is bound to drop sharply soon enough.

On a final note, lots of people are saying CS1.6 is 5 years old etc, it should run well.

Take a quick look at the fps stats above (127fps on HL2 being the best) and then let me tell you about smoke grenades in CS 1.6 - smoke grenades STILL result in my fps dropping to 37.5fps... Now this has got me thinking as its exactly the same figure as I had with my radeon 9700 pro - is this a design limit????? or just a bug???

Now theres a thinker... Seems far too co-incidental. This card can eat doom3 for breakfast, as well as Republic The Revolution (120fps+) but it cant do smoke faster than 37.5fps even if I turn it on 800x640!!

300 squid is a normal price for the XFX 6800 GT. Same price anywhere or did you get it cheaper.

Gav - smoke in CS kills my brand-new 5700FX too, just in the same way as it has done on every other comp I've ever owned, and my mate's ([RAD] Gunslinger) comp too. I think it's a bug that has just never been fixed.

aye, Im starting to think its a feature though. The reason being this:

If i set my monitors refresh rate to 85hz I get 42.5 fps!
At 75hz 37.5 ....... exactly half on two different setups makes me wonder if they have capped it or something ? anyhoo nuff said on this one.

hmm, i get 99fps in smoke on high, if i get 2-3 smokes on screen then it drops to 65-75ish fps, (Radeon 9800 Pro), or is this only if V-sync is on?

aye only if vsync is on.

I dont see the point in not having vsync on, cos the textures just tear.

I don't seem to have a problem with smoke. I play in 1280x1024 in 32 bit colour. This is on an non overclocked fx5800 ultra.
The fps only waivers if I stand on the can of smoke itself. Otherwise it's 60pfs constant.

Wow, you can get a 6800 for only £175 from here.
Its only the standard one, not a gt or an ultra but still.....

Oh yeah g@v, the built in thermometer? Is this acessed via a special program, or do you view it from the display settings page?
Because as far as I know, most of the newer geforce cards you can view the temperature from the display settings page.
