My BitTorrent downloaded copy says "Yes it is a good game if you like FPS shoot em ups".

My purchased in the shop copy says "Fark me, £40 for this?!?!?!"

I think its a bloody brilliant game, but really cant see it performing anywhere near as well on the XBOX.

For me - doom 3 was the game of last year (before HL2 was released) - but its still a damn good game

It performs very well however they have removed alot of the map areas that are open in order to do this. (Window canteen room at the start, and the crane in the lower mars area)

Personally, I thought Doom 3 was a bit of a letdown.

Don't get me wrong, it's very atmospheric and does manage to scare the crap out of you on at least a dozen occasions.

The graphics and sound are pretty good and (assuming you didnt cheat on the PC with the duct-tape mod), the idea of holding a torch OR a gun makes for a very immmersive experience.

My biggest gripe is that early on I thought it looked to be more in the 'System Shock 2' style - i.e. some storyline and choices that affect the gameplay - but by the end of the game you don't really care why you are killing things or opening a door.

It's an out-and-out 3D FPS shooter with creepy bits - and as far as it goes it's very enjoyable. If that's your kind of thing then turn down the lights, turn up the sound and you will love it.

The Xbox version looks pretty good and comparable to playing the game on a mid-to-high end PC - apparently there is very little slowdown but I've only seen bits of it and not actually played it myself so cant vouch for that.

Personally, I just though they missed a trick as they could have easily made the plot and characters more relevant without having to put any extra work into the game technology and without detracting from the "shoot-kill-creep-shityourself" core of the game.

...just my opinion, most people thought it was awesome - I thought it was "above average".

However it was DOOM 3 not System Shock 3. If they had produced System Shock 3 under the name DOOM 3 then more people would have complained that DOOM 3 doesn't follow the style of Doom 1 and 2.

This is like complaining that you ordered a Big Mac and there wasn't enough Chicken Nuggets in it.

I just felt with the effort they put into making it look nice they maybe could have spent just a little time making you care about where you were and why you were doing things.
The early stages of the game are excellent and really draw you in - I just felt is was a shame they didnt sustain this.

But you have a fair point - it is a sequel to the original mindless shooters - and thats what you get.

Whereas I wanted a mindless sequel to a mindless shoot em up and that's what I got :)

Personally I loved the game for what it was and I came this close (---> <---) to actually buying it.

I agree. It's very scary, but I got bored about halfway through and never finished it.

Me too - played it for a little while. Very poor.

Graphics were pretty but after a while all very similar. And I enjoyed the previous doom & quakes, so perhaps it was just over-hyped and I was let down.

Like when I saw Batman.

I am the opposite of wintermute - the lenghty openings bored me a little as they were not in the style of doom.

The final few stages were brilliant for me, and made the game. I loved the open rooms with just endless slaughter (the hell levels especially) and panic induced running around like a headless murderous chicken.

I didn't notice this post before turks, must be losing my marbles!

I thought Batman begins was actually okay, but the first batman that came out was extremely hyped up and I was very disappointed with it.

Like stargate (the movie) - I was really really looking forward to that, I even went to see it at Leicester sq. but it was only 'okay' for me. They missed an opportunity plot wise to create something far more complex instead of the noddy story it ended up as.

I adored Batman Begins. It didn't follow Year One, but I think it did something new and true to the intent of the characters.
I'm one of the few that thought Burton's original movie was a bit pants and didn't capture the spirit of the comics as it should have.

As far as DoomIII goes, I barely completed the first level of it. The torch thing was too frustrating and not with the spirit of the original game. For me it didn't get the scare factor of a creepy horror game, or the mindless killing that I expected from the Doom franchise.

Also - in Alias...have they only got one agent? Why the hell does Sydney get sent out for EVERY mission that the CIA or SD6 requires?

Edit - drunk stylee spelling corrections.
