PC Specs, what you running now?

Post by jamie »

Thinking about it, whats a good middle range spec pc to be running. I dont think we have many early adopters here, so what are you all running? My latest pc is:

AMD sempron 64bit 754 1.8@2.6
1 gig 3200 memory
Geforce 6600gt
2x80 gig raid sata hd striped (for her pleasure)

Plays Tomb Raider Legend reasonably ok, no fancy lighting though. What would be a good game to bench against? CS:S?
FRAPS is a cool utility for giving fps in corner of screen.

i think i get the fps on screen via my omega drivers.

Id bench on CSS for multiplayer games and HL2 for single's, but thats as i play them most often.

PC 1
AMD 64bit 3200
1GB RAM
Leadtek NVidia 6800 128Mb Gfx (AGP)

Plays HL2 with most setting at med-high, for CS:S needs be reined in a bit for newer maps. Frame-rate often 100+, sometimes dips to around 50fps but generally handles most things thrown at it.
:)

PC2
AMD 64bit 3800 dual-core
2 GB RAM
Gainward Nvidia 7800GT 512Mb "Goes like hell" (PCI-E)

Does everything
:D
(but sadly was Mrs W's birthday present so she kicks me if I get within 10 feet of it  )

Are all the 7xxx series graphics cards here on pci-e? Seems a shame that AGP appears to have been dropped like a hot potato. Seen a review of the fastest AGP gfx card in a mag over the weekend, it was well expensive compared to its pic-e equivalent.

You can still get the 6800GS (basically the same as a GT) in AGP along
with, I believe, 2 of the 7x00 cards.

Strange that they dropped AGP so quickly though considering 90%+ of
people will still be using AGP motherboards.

As for specs:

AMD Athlon64 3200+ (Winchester)
2GB Corsair PC3200 RAM (4 x 512MB)
2 x 80GB Seagate HDD
MSI 6800GT 256MB (AGP)
Creative Audigy 2 ZS

Holding off before making my next upgrade. Partly because I'm saving to
buy a house and partly because I want to see how the new AM2 CPUs pan
out compared to Intel's Conroe CPUs. :)

So how good is one of these then? (I have no idea with the ATI cards at the moment  )

Otherwise would love one of these. Mmmmmm.

Just noticed that everyone so far has Nvidia for the "current" spec machine. Coincidence non?
